Most Popular Questions

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Southern Classic pricing is for the most part figured by the cubic inches. If you go with a larger or smaller cabinet, the price will reflect accordingly. We also do some things standard, that others charge for i.e. soft close drawers or dove tailed hardwood drawers. We don’t have the large fancy shop with a large fancy payment either. We are not the cheapest most of the time, but I’ll put the quality up against any cabinets on the market. Send me some sizes and let me figure you out a great kitchen.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Listen to your customers thoughts and write that down. Let them tell you what they want. If asked make suggestions. Measure twice and ask questions about the job. Once we have an understanding on the project then we talk wood types, color, shine or no shine. Help them understand that I will build what they want and put it on their home.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I’m a numbers guy, a student of old time craftsman like my Dad who at one time built boats, one still holds a world record. My good friends Tim, Glenn, Keith, and others in my some 50 years of playing in the sawdust.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

In the year 1988 I answered a newspaper ad for a person to run a saw in a production furniture shop while working as a supervisor in a poultry plant evening mini shift. In 1991, I quit both jobs and opened Southern Classic.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I’ve worked for all type customers like tire salesman, chicken salesmen, teachers, students, school board members, doctors, firefighters, lawyers, heads of corporations and janitors. Millionaires and poor little country churches. We've all got to live somewhere, and we all would like a nice kitchen and bathroom to come home to.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Three years ago I got to build a baby bed for my first grandson. It served them well and the photos are in the album.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look for time and experience in customer satisfaction. I have 27 yrs. of making fine furnishings and beautiful cabinets, with lots of different finishes. Your sure to get that special look you require.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

If you have an idea or not of what you want, if you could find a picture that would be great. You need to know the size, what wood type, painted or stained. This will help you get exactly what you want.
